New York Laws And Tint Percentage Information

Picture of percentages of tint with a car in the background
Window tinting is a typical practice among a great many people, covering everything from vehicle to home to business windows. Window tinting is commonly chosen by two principal factors. One factor is client preference. It is ultimately up to you what tint you would like to use for your windows. The other important factor that must be considered is what we are permitted to do as indicated by New York state laws on tinting. This will also help you to avoid any costly tickets or fines.

Cars

Tint is measured and characterized by something many refer to as Visible Light Transmission. The measure of tint you can have on your vehicle, is explicitly characterized under New York state laws. On your car windshield you are only allowed to have the upper windshield tinted and this can be any level of darkness that you choose. On your front side windows, the tint must permit 70% or greater amount of VLT. Your rear side windows must permit 70% or greater VLT. Similar to the upper windshield, the back windshield can also be any level of darkness that you choose.

SUVs and Vans

Similar to cars, the state of New York also requires that SUVs and vans also permit 70% or greater amounts of VLT. Also similar to cars, the upper 6 inches of windshield can be as light or dark as you choose. The front side windows must also permit 70% VLT or greater as well. The rear side windows must also permit 70% VLT or greater on SUVs and vans. What's more, the back windshield can likewise be as dark as you would like.

Illegal Tint Consequences

If you choose to disregard the New York state laws in regards to window tint percentages, you could risk a ticket or fine. As of now, the punishments for unlawful window tinting would involve a fine of up to $150 per occurrence. Consequently, we suggest letting us guide you through the  process of selecting your percentage of window tint for your vehicle.

Home and Commercial Tint Regulations

In New York, there are at present no state laws or guidelines about the measure of tint that you can have on private or business windows. Be that as it may, contingent upon the region you live in, there could be additional authorizations you have to follow. Therefore, it is imperative to investigate guidelines for your particular neighborhood.
